"There is no great invention, from fire to flying, which has not been hailed as an insult to some god." - Daedalus
Greece had very mountainous geography preventing them from growing many crops. The areas that were not mountainous did not have fertile soil at all, even though Greece has plenty of rivers, the problem is that the rivers don't flood. The non fertile soil made the kind of crops and the amount of crops they could grow very limited which made them resort to olives, grapes and barley. In spring it was very rain and a temperature of 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit, in the summer it would be very hot with a temperature of 80-100 degrees Fahrenheit and it would almost never rain, in fall the rain will come back and the dropping temperature would be 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit, and last but not least in the winter the temperature is 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit and it is rainy but rarely snowing.
The Geography of ancient Greece made hard to trade over main land causing them to have to trade over sea. With the mountains separating the city states causing them to develop in their own separate ways, such as different governments and different ways of life. Because of the mountains and non fertile soil this made farming hard for the ancient Greeks allowing them to grow only certain types of crops such as olives, grapes and barley.
